  • A Cup of Coffee That Changed My Morning

    By ChoitalykRuman

This morning, I stopped at a little café for my usual coffee. The place was crowded—people scrolling on their phones, shuffling impatiently, and waiting for their orders with that familiar morning rush energy.

In front of me stood an elderly man. His coat looked a little worn, his hands trembled as he reached into his pocket, and he carefully laid a few coins on the counter. After counting them twice, he looked at the cashier and said softly, almost apologetically,
“I think I’ll just take the toast… I don’t have enough for the coffee.”

I noticed how his shoulders sank, as though giving up that simple pleasure—a warm cup of coffee—was more than just skipping a drink. It felt like giving up a little joy in his morning.

Something inside me couldn’t let it pass. Before the cashier could respond, I leaned forward and said,
“Please keep the coffee. I’ll cover it.”

The man looked at me, startled. His eyes widened, and for a moment, he seemed unsure how to respond. “Oh, no… I couldn’t let you,” he whispered.

But I smiled and handed my card over. “It’s only coffee,” I said gently. “But everyone deserves to start their day with one.”

There was a pause. The café, which had felt so noisy just moments before, suddenly seemed to quiet down. The elderly man’s eyes glistened, and he held the cup with both hands as if it were something precious.

“Thank you,” he said softly, his voice breaking a little. “Not just for the coffee… but for reminding me I still matter.”

That sentence stayed with me long after I walked out with my own coffee.

We live in a world where people are constantly rushing—checking their phones, worrying about their schedules, and often overlooking the little moments that connect us. Yet, in that café, one small act of kindness shifted the entire atmosphere. Strangers who had been impatient just a minute earlier looked calmer, softer, more human.

It reminded me that kindness isn’t about how much you give; it’s about what your gesture represents. That coffee didn’t just warm his hands—it warmed his spirit. It reminded him that he is seen, valued, and worthy of kindness.

And maybe that’s the most important thing we can give one another: the reminder that we still matter.

So today, I carry this thought with me: never underestimate the power of a small act. A smile, a helping hand, or even the price of a cup of coffee can restore dignity, hope, and light in someone’s day.

Because one day, it may be us standing there, hoping for the same.

  • I Choose to Forgive: A Journey Into Healing, Love, and Freedom

    By ChoitalykRuman

Today, I make a conscious and courageous choice:
    I choose to forgive.

I forgive every soul who has ever wronged me—whether they betrayed my trust, spoke ill of me, abandoned me in my time of need, or hurt me in ways they may never even realize. Some did so out of ignorance, others out of pain, and some simply because they did not know how to love. Still, I choose forgiveness—not for their sake, but for mine.

    Forgiveness is not weakness.
    It is not forgetting.
It is not pretending the pain didn’t happen.
It is remembering without the desire to retaliate.
It is reclaiming my peace and releasing myself from the bondage of bitterness.

For too long, I have carried the heavy weight of resentment, anger, and sorrow. These emotions, though valid, have become chains holding me back from my true self. They have kept my heart confined and my spirit tired. Today, I gently place them down. I give myself permission to heal. I give myself permission to be free.

Regardless of how I was treated, I now see clearly: those who hurt others are often hurting deeply themselves.
    Wounded people wound people.
And love—true, divine love—is the only force powerful enough to break that cycle.

    So, I choose to love.
I offer my love to all who are in need—especially to those who have hurt me.

    Not because I must…
    Not because they earned it…
But because my soul longs to be a river, not a dam.
I will not let their actions dictate the condition of my heart.
I will not let pain define who I become.

By extending love instead of hate, compassion instead of condemnation, I do something radical—I plant seeds of healing, both in myself and in others. My love becomes a balm. My kindness, a mirror of what is possible in this often wounded world.

Love is not limited. It is not fragile. It is not scarce.
It expands the more it is given away.
My love reaches those who walk with me in light, and it reaches those who are still stumbling in the dark. It touches hearts that have cherished me, and it gently brushes the edges of those who have yet to understand what true love means.

    I have chosen my path.

    I choose to forgive.
    I choose to let go.
    I choose to rise.
I choose to love without limits.

This is not just a decision—it is a declaration.
It is a promise to myself and to the world:
No matter how much darkness I face, I will always return to the light.

If you are reading this and you carry pain, know this:
Forgiveness is not something you give when you’re ready.
It is what makes you ready.
It is the first door to inner peace and the last word in any healing story.

Today, let love be your language.
    Let forgiveness be your freedom.
    Let compassion be your legacy.
